Staying Healthy During Covid-19

We’re experiencing an viral outbreak called COVID-19. The virus originated in the Wuhan providence of China. It is believed the outbreak started from the consumption of bush meat. Bush meat are animals that are not normally eaten by humans such as dogs, bats, monkeys, birds and other exotic wildlife.

Even though the US is currently the center of this pandemic, over taking both Italy and China in the numbers of positive tests, it is important to continue taking proper precautions. Here are some ways you and your family can stay safe during this pandemic:

  • Stay Inside!
    • Avoid unnecessary travel and contact with others.
  • Avoid Large Gatherings
    • The chance of passing and contracting the virus is higher if you’re in a large gathering.
  • Avoid Physical Contact
    • The virus is not airborne, it is pass through physical contact. Therefore, it is important to not shake hands or hug people.
    • Wash face and hands regularly with an anti-bacterial soap
  • Disinfect personal items and surroundings
    • Disinfect items such as phones and computers with Clorox wipes to kill any germs.

Rutgers Suspends Face-to-Face Classes

Earlier this week Rutgers president, Robert L. Barchi, sent out the email stating that face-to-face classes has been canceled until March 12th and he also suspended classes for the rest of the week. This was the proper measure to take since there has been already confirmed cases of the corona virus in New Jersey. Students have been advised to stay indoors and continue to disinfect in order to prevent anymore outbreaks. Universities across the US have been shutting down as well. I think there’s a bigger chance of an outbreak at a university since we’re all cooped up together on campus which makes getting infected a lot easier.
